Danby Castle is located just outside the villages of Ainthorpe and Danby in the North York Moors National Park. The nearest towns are Whitby (14 miles) and Guisborough (11 miles).

By Coach


We have arranged for a coach to collect and drop off people who are staying at Sneaton Castle Centre (please see the accommodation page). We are asking that people chip in £3 per head on the day to help cover this cost. The coach service will run to the following timetable:



12:45: Bus collects guests from Sneaton Castle (Whitby)
13.30: Bus arrives at Danby Castle
00:00: Bus takes guests back to Sneaton Castle (Whitby)

We have assumed that everyone staying at Sneaton Castle will want a drink, and therefore will want to use this coach service so, if you have other plans, please could you let us know.

By Car

There are various routes to Danby Castle including some very scenic drives through the National Park. By all means take whatever route you prefer but we have found the simplest way to get to there is to approach via the A171 and come through the villages of Danby and Ainthorpe.

As you approach the Castle from Ainthorpe (the nearest village) there will be parking available in the field on the left immediately before the castle entrance. This will be clearly signposted  on the day.

By Taxi


For those people staying in B&B’s local to Danby Castle, we are asking that you arrange your own travel to and from the venue. You could share cars and drive to the castle (see directions above), leave the car overnight and then collect the following morning. Taxis will definitely be available on the night. By Train



Danby is on The Esk Valley Railway which runs between Middlesbrough and Whitby but at present trains only run  four times a day! If you’re a determined train traveller, here’s the link to the website with all the info:
